The Personal Art Projects
As I wrote on this other page, this blog is an archive of (and notebook for) my personal art projects. Calling them “personal art projects” is the best I can do, since there’s no common medium or format. There is, it seems, a common theme: trying to close the gap between the complexity & emotional nuance of inner experience and living in a world where we mostly hide that from others.
I get excited to work on things that explore or explode this gap. As you’ll notice, the projects tend to start strong, then die out as I get bored of them. At least The Marginspace will keep an archive of them and allow me space to ruminate about stuff before and after projects.
Some examples include:
- @DestroySuperMe. The Twitter feed of a fictional character who tweets heartfelt things with no irony and no regard to his “Digital Super-Me”.
- What Lurks Beneath: Essays on MTV’s Laguna Beach. A series of short essays that find a deep passion and genius in what seems like the most superficial of shows.
- The One Method. A series of interactive workshops on starting meaningful conversations with strangers and the art of dating.
- What Lurks Beneath: Cinematic Criticism of YouTube Marriage Proposal Movies.
